Lake Purdy is a 1050 acre freshwater reservoir created in 1923 by the impoundment of the Little Cahaba River by the Lake Purdy Dam in Shelby County. The lake is owned by the Birmingham Water Works Board and used as a secondary source of drinking water for its 600,000 customers in the Birmingham area. No private boats are allowed on the lake as a precaution against the introduction of invasive plant species. Lake Purdy has great opportunity to catch some of the best game fish species in Alabama lakes including spotted bass, largemouth bass, black crappie, white crappie, and catfish! Fish are great to eat! Bank fishing is free, and we have lots of fishing equipment to purchase, live and artificial bait, and boats for rent. Come relax and enjoy yourself on this beautiful lake! Catch some good ones and get your picture on our wall of fame and Instagram!
